The Jewish Museum presents North Beach Social: Psychic Mirrors
October 20, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
The community is invited to the North Beach Band Shell on Thursday, October 20 for a free concert to celebrate the band shell’s recent designation on the National Register of Historic Places. The evening opens with a tribute to Norman Giller, original architect of the Bandshell in 1961. Giller was one of the founders of Miami Modern — or MiMo, a regional style of architecture that developed in South Florida during the post-war period. “The North Beach Bandshell is an iconic representation of MiMo architecture and is as fresh today as when it was designed over 60 years ago. The canopy addition fits as though it was part of the original design. It surely has stood the test of time” said Ira Giller, Norman’s son.
The Psychic Mirrors take the stage following the Giller tribute and proclamation presentation. Psychic Mirrors is a six-piece band from Miami, FL, whose music is an amalgam of yacht rock/AOR, boogie-funk and wavy synth jazz.
The free concert is part of North Beach Social, 3rd Thursdays at the Bandshell and is co-sponsored by the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU, whose current exhibition Giller & Giller: An Adventure in Architecture is on view thru October 30. The museum is located at 301 Washington Avenue on Miami Beach. The North Beach Band Shell is located at corner of 73 street and Collins Avenue.
