The April edition of the monthly North Beach Social is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cafe Brasil, the popular weekly Brazilian radio show on WDNA-FM, hosted by Gene de Souza.

Celebrating with Gafieira Rio Miami, a samba/jazz 11-piece big band created by Brazilian bassist and composer Diogo Brown. As one of the most in-demand bass players, Brown has worked with renowned artists such as Laura Pausini, Buika, Nouvelle Vague, Julio Iglesias Jr. and Tony Succar. In 2021, he recorded with Gloria Estefan on her Latin Grammy-winning album Brazil 305. Alongside Latin Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dr. Pablo Gil and Pedro Carrero, former principal trombonist of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, Brown has recruited the best session musicians in South Florida. Vocalist Preta Egy, who has worked with major artists such as Anitta and Ludmilla, adds the perfect feminine touch to Gafieira Rio Miami, delivering her powerful and seductive vocals to fresh new arrangements of Brazilian songbook classics.

With a powerful 5-piece horn section, plus bass, guitar, drums, percussion and vocals, Gafieira Rio Miami fuses samba, jazz and funk inspired by 20th century Rio de Janeiro joyous ballroom dance music known as “samba de gafieira.” Come prepared to dance!
