Making America Modern
November 1, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free – $10In the 1930s, designers in the U.S. put their own unique spin on Art Deco and other modern styles that had already made a splash in Europe. Join design historian Marilyn Friedman, author of the new book Making America Modern: Interior Design in the 1930s, as she discusses how luminaries like Donald Deskey, Paul T. Frankl, and Kem Weber transformed American interiors by embracing a brand-new aesthetic of simplicity, practicality, and comfort.
The talk, a part of The Wolfsonian’s Mark Mamolen program series on American homes, will be preceded by a curator-led tour of Deco: Luxury to Mass Market, and followed by a reception and book signing in the museum’s design store.
$10, free for Wolfsonian members.
