2019 “BIG-TOE” Hike
of the Barefoot Mailman
Sunday, February 3 2019
Who? Participants must be a registered Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturer, Girl Scout,
or registered adult. Each Unit registering Scouts must register at least one
adult hiker*.
What? On Sunday, February 3, 2019 Hurricane District and the South Florida Council
will mark the 18th Anniversary of the BIG-TOE Hike of the Barefoot Mailman.
This 12-mile day-hike, along portions of the historic trails walked by the
Barefoot Mailmen of the late 1800’s, provides opportunities for Cub Scouts,
Webelos and young Boy Scouts to learn and practice hiking skills while hiking
a portion of a Historic Trail Hike. Like the Barefoot Mailmen, participants in
the hike are to maintain self-sufficiency (except water) as they hike the trail.
Where? Haulover Beach Park to South Beach, Miami Beach
When? Sunday, February 3, 2019. Check-in 6:30 – 7 AM. Step off at 7:30 AM.
REQUIREMENTS: CLASS-A UNIFORM! Each Unit registering Scouts must register at
least one adult hiker*. Patches will be awarded to participants that
successfully complete the hike.
REGISTRATION: REGISTER ON-LINE at sfcbsa.org/event-list/. Registration continues
until January 25, 2019. After Jan. 25, only on-site (Saturday or Sunday
morning Feb. 2 or Feb. 3) registrations will be allowed.
Cost? $10 per person for early registration. Early registration closes January 18,
2019 and cost will be $13 per person after January 18.

* Each unit will be responsible for their Scouts participating in the “Big-Toe”
hike. At least two adults must participate to be responsible for the “Toe”
participants from their unit.
