AFRO ROOTS FEST 2019
The afro-future is female!
Community Arts & Culture, MDC Live Arts, & Rhythm Foundation Present: Malian singer/guitarist Fatoumata Diawara, Mauritanian Griot Noura Mint Seymali, and the African Watoto Dance Theatre at the 21st Afro Roots Fest.
Malian singer, dancer, songwriter, guitarist and actress Fatoumata Diawara is a show-woman with her new album FENFO: “something to say.” Boldly experimental yet respectful of her roots, it’s a record that defines her as the voice of young African womanhood – proud of her heritage but with a vision that looks confidently to the future and a message that is universal. Singing in Bambara over a funky mix of beats from her ancestral Wassoulou region, together with rock, pop and folk, her songs aim to change minds, while the music and her dynamic stage presence simply mesmerizes.
Afro Roots Fest is co-presented by Community Arts & Culture MDC Live Arts, and Rhythm Foundation, and is made possible with the support of the City of Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Department of Cultural Affairs, the Knight Foundation, the Doris Duke Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
