Young Patronesses of the Opera (YPO)/Florida Grand Opera (FGO) Voice Competition

The YPO/FGO Voice Competition is held once every two years. The finals concert is open to the public and features ten opera singers who compete for top prizes of $10,000 (Senior Young Artist, age 25 to 30) and $7,500 (Junior Young Artist, age 20 to 24). Each singer presents two arias from the standard opera repertoire, accompanied by piano, before a panel of judges and the audience. The judges are opera professionals who have a deep knowledge of young singers, and include: Cory Lippiello, Artistic Administrator, Lyric Opera of Chicago; Philip Pierce, Director of Artistic Administration, Florida Grand Opera; William Powers, Managing Director, Pittsburgh Opera; and Brian Speck, Director of Houston Grand Opera Studio. A total of at least $44,000 will be awarded, including an Audience Favorite Award. Winners of this competition include many singers who are having major careers in opera, including Michael Fabiano, Elizabeth Caballero, and Nadine Sierra. See the stars of tomorrow today!
